The Technical Committee on Constitution Amendment has formally concluded its extensive public consultation and submission collection phase, marking a critical pivot in the national process concerning constitutional reform. According to the Committee’s Chairperson, Christopher Mushabati, the immediate focus is now shifting entirely toward the preparation of a comprehensive report destined for submission to the executive arm of government in due course. This transition signals the end of the public-facing consultative mandate and the commencement of the crucial, internal deliberative work required to synthesize the gathered public input into formal amendments.

The exercise in nationwide stakeholder engagement was characterized by a notably high degree of public participation. Dr. Landilani Banda, the Committee’s Vice Chairperson, affirmed that while the process encountered no serious operational impediments, the volume of responses received constituted an “overwhelming response,” which he pragmatically deemed a positive challenge reflective of vigorous democratic discourse. Furthermore, the Committee explicitly welcomed the presence of critical voices within the consultative submissions, acknowledging that a healthy constitutional review process necessitates a diversity of viewpoints and would be fundamentally incomplete absent such dialectical tension. The upcoming report will therefore serve as the authoritative consolidation of this broad spectrum of national opinion, setting the stage for subsequent legislative and political determinations regarding the nation’s foundational legal architecture.
